How to install, connect, and run CMS Inspect
A practical guide for WordPress and Joomla teams: get agents online, monitor the fleet, run updates, back up databases to the cloud, and report outcomes.
Getting started
From zero to a connected fleet
Most teams connect their first site in minutes. Use the steps below, then explore monitoring, updates, backups, security, and reporting in the app.
1. Create your CMS Inspect account
Register at app.cmsinspect.com. Core dashboard access is free; advanced operations unlock per active site.
2. Install the site agent
Download the latest WordPress plugin or Joomla package. Install and activate on each site you want to manage. Packages always resolve to the current stable release from the update server.
3. Connect the site in the app
Add the website in your dashboard and complete the agent connection. Once linked, the site reports uptime, versions, pending updates, and security signals into one place.
4. Run day-to-day operations
Use the dashboard for monitoring, safer update/install workflows, database backups to Google Drive or Dropbox, security triage, Google Analytics linking, and exportable reports.
WordPress
- Upload the plugin ZIP via Plugins → Add New.
- Activate CMS Inspect and keep it enabled so commands can run.
- Connect from the app — plugin, theme, and core update workflows become available with Operations.
- Use cloud database backups and security scans from the dashboard when enabled on the site.
Joomla
- Install the suite package via System → Install → Extensions.
- Ensure the CMS Inspect component and agent plugin are enabled.
- Connect the site in the app to unlock monitoring, extension updates, backups, and scans.
- Prefer the package ZIP so matching component + agent versions stay aligned.
Monitoring & updates
Watch uptime and incident context, then queue update/install actions with clearer logs and state transitions. External updates are detected so history stays honest.
Backups & integrations
Run database backups and upload them to Google Drive or Dropbox. Link Google Analytics for traffic context in reports. Configure email alerts for incidents and ops events.
Security & reporting
Triage malware/permission findings, suppress verified noise, and export CSV/history for clients, tickets, or leadership updates.
